Gooding Aluminium launches new aluminium glazing channels

Gooding Aluminium the national and international supplier of a wide range of high quality aluminium sheets, aluminium profiles and aluminium extrusions have launched an innovative range of aluminium glazing channels known as GA ‘Complete’ Shuffle and Shuffle-Less Glazing Systems.

Set to revolutionise the glass and glazing installation process, GA’s newly introduced Shuffle Glazing and Shuffle-Less Glazing profiles provide a handy ‘one source’ system for the framing of 10mm ,11 and 12mm thick glass.

The aluminium glazing channels have been produced with time saving countersunk pre-drilled holes which will allow Glaziers and Glazing Contractors to save a considerable amount of installation time on site.  They are delivered pre-finished and complete with glazing wedge and setting blocks.

The aluminium extrusions are available, from stock in a white powder coated or a natural anodised finish. The profile faces are protected, during the delivery and fixing phases, with a peelable protective film, ensuring a first class decorative appearance.  Developed with aesthetics in mind, the translucent and UV stable PVC glazing wedge co-ordinates well with both the white powder coated, and the natural anodised finish.  Plastic setting blocks are also supplied as part of these all inclusive glazing channels, helping to ensure quick, safe and damage free installation.

During the development process, the aluminium glazing channels were tested by some of the UK’s leading glazing contractors.  Nick Ancient of Glass Build (London) Ltd is one of the first to rate the new aluminium glazing systems:

“My team on site couldn’t believe that the channels were pre-drilled.  With that and the glazing gasket, there was no mess to clear up after installation”.  He went on to say “The two part profile works perfectly, the glazing channels have been a great time saver, the guys on site love it”

Design Characteristics of Aluminium

Aluminium and its alloys possess many useful architectural properties. We detail below those qualities that are particularly relevant to the building and associated industries.

Availability

Aluminium is the most common metallic element and its oxide form, known as bauxite, is the third most abundant substance.

Bi-metallic Corrosion

In the presence of moisture direct contact between aluminium and other metals should be avoided otherwise bi-metallic corrosion may occur. Where there is such potential for bi-metallic corrosion then the different metals must be isolated from each other by means of a suitable gasket or by coating or painting the contact area. There is no risk of bi-metallic corrosion in dry conditions.

Corrosion resistance

Aluminium is highly resistant to weathering, even in polluted industrial atmospheres and also resists attack from many acids.

The excellent corrosion resistance of aluminium is due to the permanent presence on the surface of an invisible oxide film, making the material environmentally passive. If the surface is cut or scratched the protective film immediately reforms. Unless some substance or condition destroys this oxide coating, the metal remains resistant to corrosion.
